SUMMERLIN COUNCIL PATRIOTIC PARADE

July 3, 2018 | By Robin Smith

This year is the 24th year of the Summerlin 4th of July Patriotic Parade and I am thrilled to be participating again in the parade with my fellow Rotarians.

We are all volunteers and meet to carpool at 6:30 a.m. to the balloon areas by 7 a.m.  There we are assigned to different theme balloons to wrangle in the parade.  The balloons change each year except for the patriotic balloons such as the flag and the eagle which of course are mainstream each year.

We line up with the other people that have balloon, the floats and marching bands in the parade and start promptly at 9:00 am at Hillpointe Road and Hills Center Drive in the Trails Village and goes south toward Village Center Circle and then west on Trailwood Drive. The parade route is a little over two miles once completed.

This year a new float will partake in the parade sponsored by City National Bank in honor of the Las Vegas Golden Knights: Vegas Born, Vegas Strong.  Sure to a huge hit with everyone in the community that has pride in our incredible hockey team.

Other entries this year are ‘Hamilton’s America”, “Escape from Jurassic World”, Coco’s Fiesta Espectacular” and “the Greatest Show”, plus the Pennsylvania Lions All-State Band and appearances by the Incredibles, Black Panther and Paw Patrol.

Of course the parade will have returning floats like the “Fourth Awakens” float that features the Neon City Garrison “Star Wars” costuming club, “Black Pearl” float with Captain Jack and a float that salutes the military featuring service men and women from Neliis Air Force Base.  All in all there are 70 entries in the parade.

Get to the parade route early for a good viewing spot. I am honored to be among the people that participate in this parade and very proud to be a citizen for this great country – The United States of America………Happy Birthday!!!
